A selection of past projects
In Finland, Katja Maria was the lead singer of various projects and composition concerts of pianist-composer Maija Ruuskanen 2000-2003. In 2007 Maija and Katja toured together in singer-songwriter venues in The Netherlands, joined by the Pavadita tango string quartet.
Katja Maria Band
During 2005-2007 Katja played Brazilian music with elements of Jazz with her band that consisted of talented musicians from the Dutch Jazz and world music scenes.
A shared love for Brazilian music inspired Katja Maria and Atte Kekkonen to bring songs of Brazilian masters like Tom Jobim, Ivan Lins and Caetano Veloso to Finnish audiences. Coração Vagabundo was a project band dedicated to Brazilian popular music, playing a series of concerts in Helsinki 2002-2003 and receiving great reviews in Hufvudstadsbladet, one of the main Finnish newspapers. The Brazilian rhythms came to life by the skillful playing of the band, consisting of Valtteri Pöyhönen on guitar, Arja Paju on bass, Matti Paatelma on piano, Pekka Saarikorpi on drums, Markus Jaatinen on percussion, Janne Murto on saxophones and flute, Tuuli Asunmaa and Tanja Miinalainen on backing vocals.
